What Are FunkFests?
Event organiser and funk fan Daniel Harvey is the man behind FunkFest. The aim of the events are simply to deliver quality funky live music through great bands and funky DJing. Each FunkFest is an unrelenting barrage of funk music from start to finish. There's little compromise; you don't get cheesy disco or northern soul at a Funkfest, unless whichever band happen to be playing decide to have a cheesy moment! (I'm particularly thinking of the brilliant Hot Sauce. They are cheesy - but still very very funky!)

So, FunkFest was launched in July 2007 and a number of the events have been held since then - all but one at the Steamboat Tavern in Ipswich. The other was held at Zing Bar in Ipswich.

The events usually feature two or more funk bands. A number of the regions top funk bands have played at the events; Small Town Bullies, Loose Juice, Capricorn, Mondatta Funk to name a few.

As well as the bands there's loads of funky music playing in between. Daniel has been a funk DJ in recent years, playing at the Cock and Pye pub and the 36th Chamber club night in Ipswich on many occasions and as a result has build up a substantial collection of excellent, gritty funk music from the 60s through to the present day.

To find out what FunkFests are like, the best advice I can give you is to come along and find out!
